After Summer

© Charles E. Corry 1962, 1999

1962

Then in autumn I come seeking you,

The rich ripe harvest of love's seed planted this year's spring.

Come near my nether flesh, my nether mind

That I might feel the embodiment of you.

The essence of infinite being obvious.

Simple completeness, youth's love, seeking, finding.

2019

Then in autumn I come seeking you,

All that remains of a summer's sun

In the overweening colors of a dying world.

Drawing from you the warmth taken by October chill.

In my sky no living orb but yours,

Sweet bitterness bringing wordless life content.
